Good morning American Legion Family,
Please pass this on to all of your Family Legion contacts...
"When you truly commit in your life, you start receiving more than you can imagine." "Just Ask"
Everyone is doing a great job this year according to all reports. However, the second half of the season can be the most challenging.
Six months ago we all committed ourselves and our legion post to be the best that we could be for our veterans, our community, state & nation.
Our legacy's are half complete. Our department, districts, counties, divisions and post should continue promoting all of our legion programs. The Four Pillars of The American Legion describes our goals. VA & R, National Security, Americanism & Children & Youth are the heartbeat and the needs of our veterans and our country. Our goal is to help our veterans and their families, keep our communities & our country safe, educate the future generations of our youth through our Americanism programs, and lend a helping hand through our service to those in need. "You can make a difference" in the lives of our veterans and our country. Encouragement and praise with a positive approach to each goal will ensure the successful completion of your legacy.
The year end membership report from national with our DMS included is very impressive. The Department of New York's goal was 136,700. We ended up with 145,490 or 106.430%! Congratulations and I wish you continued success in the future. New York was not the only success story for 2011. 51 of the 55 departments reached over 100% of their membership goal with DMS included. Our National organization ended the 2011 year with 109.29% of their goal. The national & department revitalization of our posts & counties is a very effective means of improving our membership. DMS members that you transfer into your local posts are a great source of potential future leaders and new ideas. All we have to do is make a personal contract and 'Just Ask" them to join our great organization.
The first six months of our legion year have been very moving and rewarding. I look forward to meeting all of you at our mid-winter conference in 2 weeks, and sharing in our camaraderie through future visitations. Keep the spirit alive and thrive in 2012. We all have an opportunity to make a difference in someones life. With the beginning of this new calender year, let us all commit to that goal. May God bless you and your family.
For God & Country,
Commander Mike Bowen
