The American Legion Legacy Scholarship
The American Legion wants to ensure higher education is a possibility for children whose parents have been killed while serving our country. Those eligible to apply for the scholarship shall be the child/children or legally adopted child/children or a child of a spouse by a prior marriage or dependent child as defined by the United States Armed Services of active duty United States military and National Guard, and military reservists who were federalized and die on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. The applicant must be a high school senior or high school graduate to apply for the scholarship. Scholarship is for undergraduate study at an accredited institution of higher education within the United States.

Samsung American Legion Scholarship
Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount. In 2013, nine $20,000 scholarships and 89 $1,100 scholarships were awarded. To date, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $4.9 million to nearly 1,700 applicants.
Scholarship applications are restricted to high school juniors who attend the current session of either The American Legion Boys State or Auxiliary Girls State program and are a direct descendant - i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc. - or a legally adopted child of a wartime veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for American Legion membership.

National High School Oratorical Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded to the three finalists. First place receives $18,000, second gets $16,000 and third takes $14,000.

Each individual state winner certified into and participating in the first round of the national contest receives a $1,500 scholarship.

Each first-round winner who advances but does not qualify for the finals receives an additional $1,500 scholarship. Other scholarships are awarded to participants by posts, districts, counties and departments during earlier levels of competition.

Eagle Scout of The Year
The American Legion honors the Eagle Scout of the Year at the national convention with a $10,000 scholarship. The three runners-up get $2,500. Further information is available from department adjutants or the Americanism and Children & Youth Division.

The Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Disease Nursing Scholarship
The Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Disease Nursing Scholarship was established to assist registered nurses with advanced preparation for positions in supervision, administration or teaching.Scholarship awards are $5,000 each

Albert M. Becker Memorial Scholarship
The New York American Legion Press Association offers one annual $1,000.00 cash scholarship in the memory of Albert M. Becker, Past NYALPA President and Past Department Commander. Applications must be received with all attachments included, not later than April 15, of each year.  The applicant must be: the child or grandchild of a member of The American Legion or The American Legion Auxiliary of New York State, or a member of the Sons of The American Legion of New York State, or a graduate of New York State American Legion Boys State or Girls State, or; with priority given to the above, a member of The American Legion or The American Legion Auxiliary of New York State. Children of Warriors National President's Scholarship
Many of America’s 1.9 million children of warriors are in need of financial assistance to further their education. The American Legion Auxiliary offers five $3,500, five $3,000, and five $2,500 scholarships to high school students who are direct descendants of U.S. wartime veterans.

Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior Members
 Five scholarships in the amount of $5,000each are awarded annually to Junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary. Current ALA Junior members who are in high school and who have been Junior members for the past three years are eligible to apply.

James H. Parke Memorial Youth Scholarship
This $20,000 scholarship is awarded to a deserving high school student who has volunteered at least 100 hours in the  Veterans Affairs healthcare system during the past year. This scholarship is awarded annually at the VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) meeting in the spring. The Auxiliary contributes $2,000 annually toward this scholarship. American Legion Auxiliary Non-Traditional Student Scholarship
This scholarship helps people who are part of The Legion Family pursue a college degree later in life or allow them to pick up where they left off when their studies were interrupted. If you’re at this place in life, this may be the right scholarship for you.

Sons of The American Legion

The Cerullo Memorial Scholarship-American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York
Up to four scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be awarded annually. Candidates for this award must be a member in good standing of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion in the State of New York and are in their senior year or graduates of an accredited high school.

William P. O'Connell Memorial Veterans Rehabilitation Scholarship
One scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 will be awarded annually. Candidates for this award must be a MEMBER in good standing of Detachment of New York Sons of The American Legion, and are in their Senior year or are a graduate from an
accredited high school.
